Scout's Salute

The three finger remind us of the three parts of our promise; duty to God, King and Country, helping other people and keeping the Scout Law. We salute our flag as a sign of respect. It is also used when we use full Scout uniform and as a greeting to whom ever using the Scout badge or uniform.

Scout Sign

It is a sign used by Scouts all over the world. The Scout sign is used when saying the Scout Promise, appointment, when the Promise is renewed, when not using the Scout's uniform and in exchange of the Scout salute when not using the forage cap.

Hand shake

In Africa, warriors once fought with spears, and carried shields in their left hand. If a warrior met a friend, however, he would not need his shield for protection, and would have his left hand free. So if a man held out his left hand it showed that he trusted you and wanted to be friendly. Lord Baden Powell once met an African Chief who held out his left hand in greeting, showing that he wanted to be friendly. So Lord Baden Powell choose this special handshake for Scouts.
